Who does what in the privacy landscape?

June 19, 2026
For many people, privacy is a complex field. At Privacy Company, we believe that should be different. Privacy should be understandable, practical, and people-centered. Who are the experts who help organisations get privacy under control and keep it that way? What roles exist within the privacy landscape? How do these roles work together to enable responsible data use? At Privacy Company, it’s all about balance. That’s why our team consists of a diverse group of experts. They combine legal frameworks with organisational reality and make privacy applicable in everyday practice.

Privacy consultants

Our privacy consultants support your organisation in implementing GDPR requirements, drafting registers and policies. They guide DPIAs and advise on processors, data flows, and risks. Their strength lies in translating abstract legislation into clear, practical steps that fit your organisation’s culture and structure. No complex language, just clear solutions.

Data protection officers

Our data protection officers advise management, assess incidents, maintain contact with the Dutch Data Protection Authority, and conduct periodic audits. They are independent, yet closely involved in your organisation. Their role requires nuance, trust, and sharp judgment. For many organisations, a DPO-as-a-service model is the ideal solution: expertise, continuity, and independence without the need for an internal appointment.

DPIA specialists

DPIA specialists focus on high-risk data processing. They analyse systems, processes, and technologies, identify risks for data subjects, and advise on appropriate mitigating measures. Their work often forms a key decision point: can a processing activity proceed, does it need adjustment, or should it be avoided?

Data governance & compliance experts

These experts focus on the structure behind privacy: roles, responsibilities, process design, accountability, and reporting. They ensure that privacy is not a temporary project but a lasting part of business operations. They create oversight, increase maturity, and help your organisation grow toward a sustainable privacy culture.

Awareness & training professionals

There is no privacy without awareness. Employees process personal data every day, and their behavior determines the level of risk. Our trainers provide interactive workshops, e-learning, scenario-based exercises, and awareness campaigns that make privacy tangible. We often see that organisations undergo a cultural shift after training: employees recognise risks, ask questions, and act more consciously.

The founders

Privacy Company was founded on the belief that privacy is a fundamental human right and a foundation for trust. The founders built an organisation where integrity, knowledge sharing, and accessibility are central. With a practical approach, strong expertise, and a warm company culture, Privacy Company has grown into one of the leading privacy consultancies in the Netherlands and beyond.

How these roles work together

At Privacy Company, no role stands alone. A DPIA only creates value when governance experts implement its outcomes. A DPO can provide stronger advice when consultants clearly map out processes. It is essential that the different experts work together.

In addition, we work closely with Purasec and their security team. By combining our expertise in privacy with in-depth knowledge of information security, we offer organizations a comprehensive solution for both privacy and security.

Privacy is about regulations, technology, and processes but above all, it is about people. The team at Privacy Company works on trust, care, and responsible data use daily.
